Creating Space: A Contemplative Advent Evening for Spiritual Directors

Thursday, December 7, 2023
Program Facilitator: Christine Eberle (see bio below)

At a time of year dominated by the demands of secular hospitality, Advent whispers a different message.

The season invites us to a radical and sacred hospitality: creating space for the coming Christ. For spiritual directors, the invitation is twofold: creating space within ourselves while holding space for those we accompany.

During this contemplative evening of prayer, the group spent time with Saint Martha, who spoke of Jesus as the one “coming into the world” (Jn 11:27).

Together we reflected upon the ways God longs to be present to us in the brief and beautiful Advent season.

About the Program Facilitator:

Christine Marie Eberle passionately connects spirituality, Scripture, and everyday life.  A college campus minister for twenty-six years, she now devotes her time to spiritual writing and retreat facilitation.  She is the author of two books of daily meditations grounded in the Ignatian tradition: Finding God in Ordinary Time and Finding God Abiding. In her retreat work, she enjoys bringing Scripture to life through dramatic interpretations of biblical women. Christine lives outside of Philadelphia, where she serves on the regional advisory council of the Ignatian Volunteer Corps and cantors at her parish, St. Vincent DePaul in Germantown.
