Meet Nancy Small, OIS’s New Associate Director for Spiritual Direction

Nancy is a graduate of Boston College and a former Jesuit Volunteer who has deep roots in Ignatian spirituality. She is a seasoned spiritual director who holds certificates in spiritual direction, Ignatian 19th annotation retreat direction, and Contemplative Clinical Practice. She is also a writer and a contemplative spiritual guide who offers programs at retreat centers and with religious communities and college students/alums.
Her background includes work in hospice chaplaincy and serving as the national coordinator with Pax Christi USA, a national Catholic peace and justice organization. She is the author of Seizing the Nonviolent Moments: Reflections on the Spirituality of Nonviolence Through the Lens of Scripture (Cascade Books), and her writing has appeared in a variety of places including America Magazine, dotMagis, and the National Catholic Reporter.
Nancy received her Master of Divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary and has been active in ministries of spiritual care, pastoral leadership, and peacemaking for over twenty-five years. She serves as an Ambassador of Peace with Pax Christi USA and lives with her husband in Worcester, MA.
