Spiritual Direction and the Call to Care for Creation
In the September 2024 “For the Cry of the Earth,” Pope Video, produced by the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network, Pope Francis encourages us to actively care for creation by adopting ecological as well as economic, social and political responses.
The pope's plea echoes Universal Apostolic Preference #4 Caring for our Common Home, in which those involved in spiritual works are encouraged to highlight awareness of this call and "collaborate, with Gospel depth, for the protection and renewal of God’s Creation." The Jesuits USA East Apostolic Plan 2024-2034 captures the urgency of the pope’s plea, stating, “To be stewards of God's creation today requires a radical rethinking of our lifestyles, our ministries, and our advocacy.”
