Launched in 2016, our Ignatian Spiritual Direction Initiative is dedicated to supporting the ongoing formation of spiritual directors in the Ignatian tradition through networking, resource sharing, and programming.
If you are trained spiritual director, or discerning becoming one, we are here to support you.
The Ignatian community on the East Coast has identified a need for more people trained and capable of offering spiritual direction. One challenge is the lack of trained directors. Another is relative lack of opportunities for collaboration among directors in different places. Our goal is to address these challanges in the Ignatian community by 1) connecting spiritual directors to people seeking direction, 2) connecting spiritual directors with one another to share ideas, experience and resources, and 3) providing training opportunities for new spiritual directors.
What We Do
We currently have two primary projects within this initiative.
We have created the OIS Catalog of Spiritual Directors to connect those seeking spiritual direction with a trained director in their area. More than 300 people are registered as directors in the Catalog, and, since it launched in June 2017, we have referred more than 200 people to spiritual directors near them.
Click here for more info about the OIS Catalog of Spiritual Directors, as well as to register as a director or to find a director.
|We also offer a series of professional development programs for spiritual directors and those in training.

| Who We Are
The Ignatian Spiritual Direction Initiative is a department of the Office of Ignatian Spirituality of the Maryland and USA Northeast Provinces of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits).
The Initiative is led by Lisa Hastings, director of formation programs, and Kevin O'Brien, director of Ignatian Partners (and not to be confused with any Jesuits by that name), in collaboration with all of you, our partners in ministry.
