Magis Program

Rooted in the graces of the Spiritual Exercises.

Open to all.

Do you have a desire to go deeper, in your prayer life, in your appreciation of the Ignatian charism and way of proceeding, in your understanding of St. Ignatius and the Jesuits?

The lay women and men in the Magis program prayerfully explore St. Ignatius of Loyola’s legacies: Ignatian Spirituality and the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits). The eighteen-month program consists of four 2-day seminars, one retreat, regular reading, personal reflection, and prayer. The program team and seminar presenters are lay and Jesuit colleagues from a variety of backgrounds and ministries.

The four seminar topics are:

  • Ignatius the LaymanWho was Ignatius? What is Ignatian prayer? Who are the Jesuits?

  • The Christ of the Exercises – What are the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius? Why are they so important? What happens when praying the Exercises?

  • A Faith that Does JusticeWhy is care for others central to the Christian faith?  What is the difference between direct service and social justice? What does the “Kingdom of God” look like?

  • Partnership: Life in Community for the KingdomHow do Ignatian people – Jesuit and lay - work to build God’s vision for the world? Why do we need one another to accomplish this work?

Magis is open to those within the boundaries of the USA East Jesuit Province.

The $1,200 program fee covers lodging, meals, and materials for the four seminars. The retreat fee is paid separately and varies based on the retreat and location.

The application process consists of the application form, two references, your resume/CV (please be prepared to attach as a .pdf) and a phone interview. The application and reference forms are accessed through the following buttons.
