Loyola House of Retreats

Morristown, New Jersey

Loyola House of Retreats is located on 30 acres of beautiful lawns, gardens and woodland in a quiet section of Morristown, N.J. Surrounded by rolling terrain and pathways through the trees, retreatants are invited to discover and deepen their relationships to God, Jesus and the Spirit, and to discover themselves through prayer, silence, reflection and rest.

Thousands of retreatants have paused to search, ask and wonder in this peaceful atmosphere since 1927. All are invited to come here to do the same — to sense God’s presence in a fresh and contemplative way.

A place to be refreshed and renewed, Loyola operates as a Jesuit center for Christian men and women. Although the center is Catholic in the Ignatian tradition, Loyola welcomes men and women of all faiths to its silent contemplative space. All guest rooms are private and the facility is handicapped accessible. The center is staffed by Jesuit priests and lay men and women.

Loyola has a wide variety of offerings, based on the Spiritual Exercises, designed to meet people where they are now in their spiritual lives and moving them deeper as they are ready. All offerings lead to the full Spiritual Exercises as a person feels called. Many people have moved from the Loyola Program into action in the community: Just Faith, Christian Life Community, Jesuit Volunteers and Ignatian Volunteer Corps to name a few.

Loyola offers weekend, directed and private retreats as well as eight-day silent directed and preached retreats during Holy Week and the summer months. In addition, Loyola offers Days/Evenings of Prayer, Follow-up Mini Retreats, Retreats for Children and Teens, Ignatian Charis Retreats for Young Adults in their 20s and 30s, First Friday Mass, Custom Day Retreats for School Faculties, High School Confirmation Retreats, retreats for the Spanish speaking community and Spiritual Direction.

Loyola also offers retreats for those combatting homelessness and addiction (partnering with the Ignatian Spirituality Project based in Chicago) and those in recovery. The Spiritual Exercises are offered in its different forms: Full 30-day retreat; 19th Annotation (30-week at-home version meeting once per week individually); and group 30-week retreat (meeting once per week in a group). Outside groups are also welcome to come and use the center to host retreats of their own.
